DragonCon

So DragonCon was...a little different this year. This is the first time I've gone as a professional (I use the word lightly) much less with a talented group of folks. It was definitly a learning experience, I even sold a few sketchbooks. (Oddly I sold more when I wasn't there, so big ups and thanks to Erica Jacobs and Nate Pratt on that) So quickly I want to thank any folks who picked'em up. Sorry I wasn't there to give you a sketch.
One highlight was I got to meet Mark Walters of
That being said a lot of my time was sitting around at the table, I froze up a lot and didn't know what to say to folks. You want to shill your stuff but you don't want to be a prick if folks are just chilling out. Anyways I wanted to run down some of the swag I enjoyed. I got the two Adam Huges sketchbooks, Cully Hamner's new sketchbook (which is cool, Cully is great but for some reason I think this sketchbook has some real prizes since some of the work is from unpublished books), Brian Stelfreeze watercolor book, Sanford Greene's new sketchbook. Everyone had like NEW COLOR SKETCHBOOKS which although awesome, practically broke my back. Easily I spent more money this year than ever before!
I also picked up two great dvd catches. Care Bears The Land Without Feelings, which I LOVE! I find it so charming and playful and I really enjoy the promise of showing it to my niece. I also got the special edition of The Last Unicorn and WOW! Ok this is the cleaned version and holy...wow. Not unlike, Dark Crystal or the Yellow Submarine, this cleaned version is like seeing it with a new set of eyes. It's gorgeous, I wish it had commentary but even still, I loved it so much. I got it signed by Peter S, Beagle who is always treat. BUT EVEN BETTER! THEY HAD A SERIES OF PRINTS FOR SALE OF ORIGINAL CHARACTER DESIGN ARTWORK FROM THE JAPANESE TEAM! and....drool. so stunning. It was cool that buying the prints and the dvd directly from Peter meant he got a nice profit share. His buisness partner is doing a great job earning him the career he deserves.
