Grand Theft Auto IV

It's good. It's really good. Not surprising, the thing I'll give GTA4 is that I'm engaged all over again. The novelty of GTA wore off for me in San Andreas. San Andreas, the city was too big and largely unused and unneccesary, the characters were all boring and lame, the comedy of the games felt missing and lacking. As well as, the gangsta rap lifestyle is so tired and cliche now, had it leaned towards parody or realism it would've been fine but walking the line was tiresome.
IV shrinks the city, not drastically but just enough to not feel so segmented, car chases are more engaging and the whole city feels cohesive and its a blast to just get your stars going and go crazy. The multiplayer is awesome, i like driving people over more than anything else. My Car-Fu has mad skillz.
Also, the story is great. The whole foreigner angle revises the series to a character with a goal other than just trying to be Scarface...but you know...not die at the end.
My only gripe is that they took out the planes which seems fine until I realize that means they took out the parachutes which was one of my favorite parts. Oh well, maybe they'll add it in downloadable content.

But it is fun to watch Niko twitch and scream when you hurl him off the top of the Empire State Building. Or, for more fun, crash a helicopter into the building, jumping out at the last minute. You can get about ten seconds of flailing terror out of him.
OH BELIEVE ME WE'VE DONE IT WITH 4 GUYS JUMPIN' OUT OF THE COPTOR!
Extra points to shoot your rocket launcher at the sametime.
Tonight I discovered that if you climb up onto something high and shoot a rocket launcher directly at your feet, you get an arty black-and-white slow motion movie of Niko's burning corpse being launched high into the air and gracefully falling to earth.
